Dr. Root provides individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. This may be independent of, or integrated with, the use of medications.

Dr. Root is trained in psychodynamic and cognitive-behavior therapy and takes a thoughtful and integrative approach to individualized treatment. He is also skilled in consultation for the use of psychopharmacology.

Dr. Root has worked in a variety of clinical settings including as Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a core Faculty Member of the Department of Psychiatry and as the Director of the Pediatric Psychiatry Consult-Liaison service at California Pacific Medical Center for nearly 20 years. He has also served on the Medical Staff at the University of California Berkeley Tang Student Health Center addressing mental health issues in the college and university population.

Dr. Root has been an educator all of his career, mentoring and training psychiatry residents, psychology interns and medical students. He is an avid photographer and has published 2 books of photography including Image in Mind: The Psychiatrist as Photographer: Perspectives on Culture, Landscape and The Photographic Relationship www.ImageinMindphotography.com.
